Decision first: from November to March inclusive, Explore Parks WA closes the Loop Trail after 7 am because gorge temperatures can reach 50 °C. If you are not walking before 7 am, you do not have a Loop day. You have Window-only, Skywalk, a lookout, or the coast.
This is a safety restriction, not a suggestion. Forcing the circuit because the carpark is already paid is how heat illness starts. Not walked — planning from official Loop / park pages and TrailsWA. The sign and alerts.dbca.wa.gov.au win over this article.
If you are in the Loop carpark after 7 am (Nov–Mar)
Nature’s Window

Do the Window. Turn around at the arch. Do not continue onto the 9 km circuit. Heat on the gorge floor is the product you are trying to avoid — official pages are explicit.
Failure mode: “we’ll go as far as the first descent and see.” There are no useful bail-outs once you leave the Window. Reverse now.
If the Loop is closed and you still want inland views

Kalbarri Skywalk (Kaju Yatka) and Z-Bend lookout sit on the same inland fee system. Confirm Skywalk hours the morning you go — they have varied. Lookout-only is a complete visit. Do not “upgrade” to Four Ways at 10 am because the Loop was shut.
Official vs the sign: extra heat closures and goat-control dates can stack on the published 7 am rule. Check alerts. Park office 08 9937 1140.
If inland is already too hot or the van is still hitched

Coastal Natural Bridge / Island Rock is generally free and more van-friendly. Stay on the boardwalk. Wave surge is the coastal failure mode — leaving the path is how people die here, not missing a gorge selfie.
Pairing ban: do not add the Loop at 4 pm “when it cools.” In summer the official closure is after 7 am, not a late-afternoon reopen you invented.
What not to invent
Do not invent a 9 am Loop exception for “fit groups.” Do not invent drinking the river. Do not invent a Skywalk ticket that replaces inland entry. Screenshot the official Loop page before you lose reception.

Is the Window also closed after 7 am?
The published heat restriction is the Loop Trail. Nature’s Window is the short Class 3 walk from the same carpark. Still verify live alerts — extra closures happen. Turn around at the arch.
Can I do Z-Bend River Trail instead?
A river descent is not a Loop substitute in the same heat. Z-Bend lookout is the honest inland Plan B. Treat River Trail / Four Ways with Loop-like self-sufficiency and official status.
What about May–October?
Official hiking advice prefers cooler months. The 7 am closure is November–March inclusive. Shoulder months can still be hot in the gorge — start early anyway.
Does paying the inland fee mean I should finish the Loop?
No. The fee covers inland vehicle entry, including Skywalk and lookouts. It is not a voucher for a closed trail.
