Assume the Loop is closed after 7 am (Nov–Mar). Prefer Skywalk (if open), Window-only if you beat the heat, coastal boardwalks, Ross Graham, Meanarra. Inland may close entirely in extreme heat or goat control — verify.

In summer, treat Kalbarri as a lookout park unless you start the Loop before 7 am with plenty of water. Town is cooler than the gorge — don’t use that as a reason to push on.
Check alerts and 08 9937 1140 if inland roads may be closed for heat or the annual goat-control program (often early February — verify).
Stopping at Skywalk and a coastal boardwalk is a successful Kalbarri day. Forcing a 9 km circuit because it is on a printed list is not.

Timeline
Night before
Assume the Loop is off unless you own a 6 am start
Screenshot alerts. Fill every bottle. Name Plan B: coast if inland is closed. Tell the group out loud that lookouts count as success.
Morning only
Skywalk and/or Window-only
If you cannot start the Loop before 7 am, don’t start it. Lookouts are still worth the drive. Unhitch for inland. Pay the inland fee. No tap.
Optional quiet inland
Ross Graham or Meanarra Hill
Easiest official river access or a short hill lookout. Still inland fees, still no water, still a caravan ban. Not a swimming-hole plan. Not the unmarked multi-day walk.
Midday
Town shade · swim at town beaches (not gorge)
National Park gorges are not your cooling plan. Town facilities are. Eat, refill bottles, sit out the oven hours.
Late afternoon
Coastal cliffs from the path
Natural Bridge in softer light. Stay off the water’s edge. Generally free. Wind and UV still apply.

Parking & access tips
- If inland is closed, do not improvise 4WD tracks.
- Coastal bays still fill at sunset.
- Unhitch before any inland attempt, even a “quick Skywalk.”
- Meanarra is Plan B when Window parking is ugly — not a Loop substitute you start at 11 am.

- Four Ways or Z-Bend River in rising heat
- Multi-day gorge (banned November–March)
- Stacking inland + Bigurda + a late Perth drive

Decision gates (say them out loud)
- If inland roads are closed: coast only — do not invent tracks
- If anyone is cooked in the carpark: do not start a descent
- If you “feel like Four Ways because the Loop is shut”: no — that is the same oven
- If spray is on the coastal path: reverse

- Lookouts and town shade, everyone hydrated
- No Loop started after 7 am in summer
- Optional coast without leaving the boardwalk
- Notes for a cooler-season return if you wanted the 9 km circuit
