Start with a clear Window vs Loop vs Skywalk vs coast decision. Inland gorges share a day vehicle fee and a caravan ban. Coastal lookouts are generally free, and the main risk there is wave surge. Distances, grades and times below are planning ranges — always confirm on Explore Parks WA and park alerts. We don’t put tour ads on individual trail pages.
Decide before you lace up
- Easy lookouts: Skywalk, Nature’s Window (turn back), Z-Bend lookout, Natural Bridge, Meanarra Hill — high reward, still real heat, cliffs and (on the coast) wave surge.
- Moderate coastal / river: Bigurda (only with a car shuffle), Z-Bend River Trail — not a boardwalk, not the full Loop.
- Hard gorge days: the 9 km Loop, Four Ways — one hero only, early start, water, official status open. November–March the Loop is closed after 7 am.

Easy / lookouts
Skywalk
easyTwin cantilever platforms (Kaju Yatka) about 100 m above the Murchison gorge. Covered by the inland park day pass — no separate Skywalk ticket. Same inland gorge road and caravan unhitch rule as Nature’s Window. Confirm operating hours on Explore Parks WA; hours have varied.

Z-Bend Lookout
easyExplore Parks WA: the Z-Bend lookout overhangs a sharp bend in the Murchison River and is reached via a walk of about 600 m from the parking area. Same inland entry station and day pass as the Loop. Heat, unfenced edges and variable reception still apply.

Nature’s Window / Loop
hardThe signature Kalbarri walk. A short Class 3 path leads to Nature’s Window — the sandstone arch framing the Murchison River. The full 9 km Loop continues along cliff edges, then into the gorge on rocky and sandy ground with little shade. Official: gorge temperatures can reach 50 °C; the Loop is closed after 7 am from November to March inclusive.

What should I walk first at Kalbarri?
Most first visits: Kalbarri Skywalk plus Nature’s Window (turn back at the arch). The 9 km Loop is a cool-season or pre-7 am summer mission for fit, watered groups. Coastal Natural Bridge is the generally free alternative. Always verify with Explore Parks WA / DBCA.
How hard is the Loop?
Official: 9 km, Class 4, allow 3–5 hours. Gorge can reach 50 °C. Closed after 7 am November–March inclusive. Drink about 1 L per person per hour. No useful bail-outs once you leave the Window.
Is Z-Bend the same as Nature’s Window?
No. Different carparks on the inland gorge road. Z-Bend lookout is a short Class 3 walk; River Trail and Four Ways drop to the river. Same inland fee and caravan ban.
