Things to do in Kalbarri National Park

Most first visits revolve around Nature’s Window plus the Kalbarri Skywalk, with a coastal lookout afternoon. Inland contrast lives at Z-Bend or Ross Graham. The full Loop Trail is a different sport — only when cool, early and planned. Inland gorges and the generally free coast are different fees and hazards. Do not try to collect every attraction on a first visit.

   Nature’s Window

   The classic first-visit lookout: a short Class 3 walk from the Loop carpark to the sandstone arch over the Murchison. Inland fee. A complete Kalbarri day can stop here (and at the Skywalk) and still succeed.

   Kalbarri Skywalk (Kaju Yatka)

   Easy · inland fee · high volume

   Twin cantilever platforms over the gorge — the mixed-ability inland icon. Covered by the inland day pass; no separate Skywalk ticket. Confirm hours the morning you go.

   Coastal cliffs & sea stacks

   Easy lookouts · generally free · wave hazard

   Natural Bridge, Island Rock, Red Bluff and Eagle Gorge south of town. Generally free, more van-friendly than gorge roads. Stay on boardwalks — wave surge is the real hazard. Not the pink lake.

   Z-Bend lookout

   Lookout easy · river moderate–hard

   A sharp Murchison bend on the same inland road as the Window — different signed carpark. The lookout is the default. River Trail and Four Ways are Class 4 upgrades, not the first-visit plan.

   The Loop Trail (when open & fit)

   Hard · heat-restricted · cool-season or pre-7 am

   A 9 km Class 4 continuation past Nature’s Window — 3–5 hours, little shade, gorge heat to 50 °C. Closed after 7 am November–March. Never impulse-add after a long Skywalk morning.

   Hawk’s Head & Ross Graham

   Quieter inland · river access · inland fee

   Quieter inland road, separate entry station, easiest official river access. Good when Window parking is ugly or the Loop is shut. The unmarked multi-day gorge walk is not a casual add-on.

   Spring wildflowers & Meanarra Hill

   Seasonal · August–October · short lookout

   Sandplain flora (peak roughly August–October, moved by rain) and a short hill lookout toward town. Inland fees usually apply. Pair with Skywalk, not a midday Loop.

   Year-round fauna · whales ~Jun–Nov · from the path

   Emus and kangaroos in-park; seasonal whales from coastal cliffs roughly June–November. Distance is respect. Never feed. No drones over wildlife. Pets banned.

   Kalbarri town as logistics, not decoration

   Services · water fill · overnight base

   Water, food, toilets, van unhitch and beds live in town — not at gorge carparks. Use town deliberately so inland time stays safe. There is no casual camping in the National Park.
